I am thinking of getting a note book. The reasons of buying is because i want to be mobile (easy to carry around, that's it). I am not concerning on the wireless or 802.11a/b/g. I might use it for some gaming. like age of mythology and some other games which is not so high requirement. Which company made the best notebook?(Price : performance). In my opinion Dell may be it, any suggestion?

I'd say Dell as well they've got some really good notebooks. But the one biggest piece of advise I can give you is stay as far away from Toshiba as possbile.

They're total shit. Over the years I've had four toshiba notebooks and each once has had one or more faults with it and has needed to be sent off to a service centre for months on end.

If your looking for something appart from a PC laptop though I can highly recommend any Apple notebook. I've recently bought myslef a 17" Apple powerbook and have gotta say it's the neicest piece of kit I've ever had.

Yeah dell seem to make some classy notebooks.

I would like to get a power book too but, my school is using windows OS, i can't do my programming with the power book very sad to say . Anyway thatnks to everyone.

hey squall thats what I thought, I'm studying software engineering and needed something that I can run a VB and C++ compiler on.

For VB I use Virual PC, which lets you run any pc operating system in a window on your desktop and allows you to access a windows network as a windows PC.

And for the C++ I use the new Xcode application from apple. Its really good and is far better than visual studio.

Plus the new networking settings in OS 10.3 mean that you can access any windows OS network and configure it far better than you can even on a windows machine.

Hi Sparkesy, thanks for the idea. How much will XCode cost or it is free? The other thing is that will IBook or power book allow JAVA as well? One last question, about the virtual pc, will windows runs slowly when trying to implement this and how much processing power it require?

hi there, Xcode comes free with mac OS 10.3 (Of which comes with all new ibook and powerbook laptops). Java is included in the xcode suite as well.

Virtual PC runs quite fast considering its emulation but if isn't up to the speed to a modern P4 I'd say it's about a P3 500 - 733 approximately but it doesn't use all of Mac OS X's resources so you can run it dump it down to the dock and carry on running other apps.

As for the minimum spec of Virtual PC it's quite low actually it just requires a G3 processor, with no specific spec, so you could run it on a 5 year old powermac if you wanted to.

All the latest Apple laptops though are all G4 1ghz + processors.

If your looking for an all round compact and powerful notebook have a look at either the 12" powerbook or either one of the ibooks available.

Working for a large notebook company. I know who to go to and not go to. The obvious answer being Dell because everyone looks to them for a respectable name. Id have to say, 2/3 notebooks sent into repair every day is a Dell. Recommendations, a Panasonic powerbook. Or if your looking for a desktop replacement notebook, Compaq 3000 series, upcoming notebook. P4 3.2 w/ mobility 9600. If you want to go centrino, x1000, with a Mobility 9200 1.3 - 1.7 mobile p4 and a Wide Screen LCD. Very robust notebooks.

Ye i m looking at getting a Laptop too i already have a US Roboitcs Turbo Wireless Access Point and their Turbo Wireless Laptop card and their Turbo Wireless PCI card in another pc and By God It's GOOD (got it due to PC Pro (mag) listing it as A Grade Kit,

dont get a dell beacause tehy only offer intel. 32bit is being fazed out. if you want a laptop taht will be fast and perform better, get one from hp or something. make sure u get an AMD64 because tests have shown that it is faster and better than teh P4 and it is futureproof. It also has built in virus protection in the chip that will be enabled with sp2 final.
