Thank you so much to take the time to read my e-mail. I have a big problem and I sure hope you can help me. I'm a newbie to the computer world.
I have a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion model 8860 AMD Athlon™ Processor. 1.00 GHz, 128 MB of Ram, Windows XP Home Edition. Everything was working just fine a couple of days ago. I downloaded a free "SunClock" from the web and during my download, my computer froze so I had to shut it down. The following morning I open my computer and wanted to listen to some music but my MediaPlayer tells me that no audio hardware is available. So I went into the Audio and Sound Devices in the Control Panel. The Audio and Voice TAB is greyed out. I have no access to those TABS. I tried to go into the Advanced Volume Controls it tells me that there's no Active Mixer Devices available . I know that my sound card is well installed and there's no other program using my sound card. I have used my Recovery Disc and formatted my entire C drive hoping that would solve my problem but it didn't.
When I go to the "Add Hardware Wizard" and click on audio codecs,Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Device, Video Codecs, it tells me that this device is working properly. But, I have no sound when I start my computer, when I want to listen to music, and when I shut it off. The only sound I hear is when I start the internet, I hear the dialing tone of my modem. That's it nothing else. I'm sorry that this is so long but I wanted you to have as much info as possible. Thanks you so much for the help you'll give me.

have you tried running system restore to go back to before you installed whatever you downloaded? yet? That would be the first thing to do. Adding more RAM would also be a wise thing to do. Let this be a lesson to you to be careful of what you download and install before you actually know what you're doing. Now you get to figure out how to fix it. Welcome to the world of computers...
