Hey. Im looking to buy a new Hard Drive. My budget is no more then £80 so nothing higher then £80 (inc. VAT hehe). I would like it to be between a capacity of 160gb to 200gb.
I have already seen a couple but get easily confused because of the mix reviews.
Thought id come here and ask for some help. Ok this is what I have found on the eBuyer website (they seem to have the cheapest HDD's).

Heh as you can see I quite like the 200GB models. I particulary liked the 3rd one because of that ATA133 hehe but what would I know. So, which would be the best. If you know of another hard drive with in my pricing range that is better then please say so.
Id be using this hard drive as a main. I like gaming, watching films etc etc so it would put under heat and pressure.

nothing else then seagate barracuda ... its the most reliable disk ever ...
its not the fastest one .OK but this disk will run 24/7 without any problem .. its extreme resistant against electric shocks and mechanical torture ...
and its quite ...
so go for seagate !

Yea I definitly require reliability as im the sort of person who buys something then do not upgrade to a newer one for a long time.

I have two Maxtors 120GB (6Y120P0 and 6Y120L0) and they work like a charm at ATA 133.

Noise: Some, but I always have music on, so I don't notice it.
Performance: Good, never had any troubles

Go for an Hitachi I've always had IBMs and have never had any problems with 'em

Maxtors die all the time. Its hard to believe the number of Maxtor disks that I've had to replace due to machanical error or have had to send back to maxtor under warranty.

Ive got 4 maxtors, 3 in 2 different computers, and 1 in the xbox, all have been fine, and are pretty quick, ive had 2 ibm drives, both have died.
I know people who have seagates and they seem fast and reliable aswell.

I just went through the same process as you & because i have had good luck with Seagate (trashed a WD in 9 months) I bought another 160g. Make sure you get the 8meg cache, a little more expensive but worth it.

Maxtor gets my vote.

Maxtor is good, but can be noisy.

What does the 8MB Cache do? But yea im getting the one with 8MB Cache

what any cache does ... save information for beeing accessed much faster the 2nd time

8MB seems a little small heh. But I guess its working progress in the HD sector .

Hey just a small question. I read about some big hard drives not being read fully by XP :knife: . Would I get the same problem with my Seagate and if so, is there some kind of software I can download to resolve it.

Bullshit ...
windows XP got full support for large disks ... the only things here can do problems are
1. BIOS ... just update to the latest
2. you got an upgrade version of Windows XP and instal it over win98 .. hell you will have a lot of trouble then
