Media Player malfunctioning

Having a problem with media player in win xp pro. Upgraded from win 98 and for a while all was well. Now when I start media player I get none of the taskbars down the left hand side. Also, mpegs won't play but the audio from them will!!

Any ideas anyone.

I've never seen a winxp do a proper upgrade from an older OS, unless there's some reason you really cant format I'd suggest wiping the drive and doing a fresh install, it will make it run faster too.

I'm not sure why Mediaplayer would break like that though, something sounds really messed up, have you tried ctrl+1 (full mode) then click the ">" symbol on the left to make the side bar appear?

Tried the ctrl 1 thing and nothing happened. I will be upgrading to an XP2000 + new mobo and ddr ram in next 3 to 6 months which is why I didn't format and install fresh XP Pro. Just wanted to see if it worked.

Would like to get media player working though, just for a bit of fun.

BTW gaming on xp pro is awesome. Would never consider win 9x again.
