Intellipoint 5.0 broken, cant buy new mouse, is logitech ok?

If I updated to Intellipoint 5.0 I wouldnt be able to specify my preferred control options for DEUS EX 2 and Knights of the Old Republic, and several other games.

I have long loved my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0.
But since I traditionally (by default) assign my extra mousebuttons to "DEL" "ENTER" and "BACKSPACE" I have experienced that several games cannot assign theese specific buttons to actions within the game.
One of the best features of the Intellipoint 4.0 software is that a specific button-set can be set for each game. By using the lovely feature of 4.0 I can bypass this problem, changing the buttons to "I,O,P" for just that game, and thus use all my mousebuttons as normal.

But with Intellipoint 5.0 this essential feature WAS REMOVED!!!
This means, that if I used 5.0 I wouldnt be able to play DEUS EX 2 and KOTOR with my MOUSE!!!

Now, If I like to buy a new mouse from Microsoft, I would be forced to swap to 5.0... And since I already know about this GREAT issue, I just cant do that.

My question is basicly:
Do someone know how to go around this problem with the 5.0 drivers?
and... does Logitech Software have this feature for their latest mice?

I WISH...

I can't believe it took you this long to post about this issue...

The day those drivers were release or software was released almost 2 years ago - I sent Microsoft a nasty grahm asking WHY they would REMOVE the best feature the software had...

I do as you do but I use , and ; as the two additional buttons on my mouse with 4.1 software and with 5.0 you can't do this anymore and games do not see what you put in with the 5.0 software PERIOD...

I wish I had an answer for you but the only TRUE answer to your question is - Download and BURN to disk the 4.1 Software and NEVER lose it...

I use the 5.0 version of Intellitype for my keyboard but will ALWAYS use the 4.1 version of the Intellipoint software until Microsoft WAKES up and FIXES their BEST FEATURE!!!

The big question here... Does 4.1 work with Microsofts new 'Tilt' Mousewheel?

I have 4.0 downloaded and installed, and I keep it safe on multiple harddrives just to be safe... But it wont help me if I would like to go for the new mice's from MS...

Not Totally sure???

I checked and did not see anything for TILT so I'd have to ASSUME that it DOES NOT...

All I could say is download the 4.1 version and install and see if that feature becomes available...

I know it works with my Intellimouse Explorer 3...

It doesn't have Tilt Wheel but that doesn't mean the software will not recognize it...

I agree with you fully - about staying with latest and greatest and I would have with the 5.0 software if they would NOT have REMOVED the BEST feature of it EVER... Dumb ARSES...

I sent it to Microsoft...

Yes I did get a REPLY - A JOKE OF ONE!!!

They stated thank you for your interest in our software and that it was noted and could be in a future release of their software - Or something similar to that...

If I'm not mistaken I filled out an online comment thing or something on the hardware site about the software and gave them my two cents worth and that is about what they replied with - not even sure it was worth 2 cents - their reply that is... lol

Can't remember exactly but that was last year sometime - it was on the day 5.0 was released and I installed and tried and notcied it was hosed... I simply deleted the email and kept using the 4.1 software...

This is my e-mail to MS:
'
I believe I am not the first user who have demanded this feature restored as it was in v4.0:

With Intellipoint 5.0, Microsoft have broken their reputation as the popular choice for gamers.
Many modern games, such as Jedi Academy, Knights of the Old Republic and Deus Ex 2 do not work with the mice's custom buttons (such as the thumb buttons, and the wheelbutton).

With 4.0 theese games worked perfectly fine.

Why?
Two essential features was removed in 5.0, stopping intellimouse to work with popular games.
First, it was possible to assign each extra mousebutton to ANY key on the keyboard (known as 'keystroke').
Secondly, it was possible to set up a UNIQUE KEYSETTING for a SPECIFIC APPLICATION.

This means: If a game wouldnt accept the defeault keys bound to the extra mousebuttons, it was possible to re-assign the mousebuttons to "I", "O" and "P", making the game work just fine again.

As it is now, v5.0 have made "Tilt-Technology" an uninteresting feature for gamers, since we must choose between "Tilt-Technology" and being able to use our extra buttons in games. I rather use my thumb-buttons in games than tilt-wheel if you ask me.

Personally, I will stick with my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, and will continue to look for alternative products among Microsoft's competitors until Intellipoint v5.0 is updated with the above mentioned features.
