Intel convert

Well i used to be a true Amd believer but 3 days ago my system gradually detoriated over 3 days to a russian tractor! and im talking blue screens lock ups the works! and i though well yeah its proberly an MS code error again so i reinstalled windows from xp to 2000 or so i thought! because it locked continuesly up under the installation and i retried a few times until i gave up and tried to install winxp again with the quickformat function and it finally made the installation i got the system up and running and went for some hitman gaming....it locked up, something must be wrong here? so i set up motherboard monitor and pcmark2002 cpu test and under the mp3 encoding test the cpu reached 51 degress celcius and locked up
i put on a larger and noisier fan and it had no problem reaching 51 degrees celcius with the case open and a largar fan and an open window with 3 degrees outside. I called a mate and he came over with his cpu identical to mine and the system ran like a charm 43 degrees full system load. I checked the cpu core of my cpu and not a scratch! not even a small scratch i sended the cpu back to the retailer with an explanation and he sended it back to me with the words :" we do not provide any service on cpu's mismounted or otherwise scratched by the user." i was mad to say the least and i went out and ordered an P4 1.8ghz Northwood with mobo and im feeling good with full system load and only 35 degrees.
So i went from
Athlon XP 1800+
MSI K7T266Pr02-RU mobo
512ddr 2700ram
to
Pentium 4 Northwood 1.8GHz
MSi 845´Pro-AR mobo
512 ddr 2700ram
and i've never had a more stable system than this! well worth emptying my bank account for.

Read some and read some more.

Might have been just a random death.

What retailer was it? I seriously think this is something that they would replace..

Sad to see you go to the dark-side.

Same thing happened to me man. I had the MSI K7T266 Pro2 and after about 2 weeks my IDE controller died. At bootup, none of my IDE devices were detected. That was pretty much the last straw with AMD. It's not like I dont like AMD, I just hate VIA.

So, I went from AthlonXP 1600+ with 256mb PC2100 to my current system in my sig. Very stable. Of course, I expect this from an intel chipset (i850 in my case).

Why are u so worried about it nate. have u owned a P4 or a Northwood P4 at that. u cannot really say that they made a bad choice in going with an Intel. it is funny how ppl trip out about this stuff, it is stupid. both the AMDs and the Intels have their + s and - s. ppl really need to think hard about that. dont think about the if it says AMD or Intel on the sticker so much.

Because I have a gut feeling that whatever problem they were having I could fix in a heartbeat.

We'll my opinion is that there was something wrong with the motherboard. I saw something similar in a friend's PC and the problem was the MB. We replace it an the problem was fixed. The first thing that i noticed it was the fact that the Temp Monitor was reporting that the chip was running a 24.0c degrees and in High CPU load it only went up to 24.2c. We'll for an AMD tha's impossible living in Puerto Rico. Temps here are mostly high so when we switched MB the temp was reading between 36.8 - 43.7c and the problem was gone.

Sounds like a case of Automobile mentality to me, if you turn the key and it works, its better than sex, if you turn the key and it don't work its a POS.

Bail out on AMD over a hardware glitch??? how OLD was the CPU, MOBO, ect.??

Were you OCing said parts ??

ALOT of crap can happen, it's not always the CPU, GROW UP , read, learn, blame the problem WHEN U FIND IT !!!

OMG my keyboard didn't work earlier, Damn it's all AMD's fault!!!!!!! WTF are you two talking about? I had a similar problem as you two fallen souls did. My first KT333 board was Asus. Was really nice to me till, I killed it. The only promblem I had with the mobo was that I bought some rounded cables to use. Damn mobo wound't reconize my cdrw, dvd or HD. Took out rounded cables, went back to reg cables, everything ok now. So i went out bought another Asus[same one]. It died on me in 20mins after I started it. Took it back for another one. Damn computer won't boot at 133 fsb, only at 100fsb. I said fine, get to windows and I check it temp. WTF???? 53C while idle????I reooted it and check bios, sure enough it was 53C, and this is at 100FSB. Took it back and exchanged it for an MSI KT3 ARU. Temps 37C idle, 44C full. Geez next time figure out whats wrong before you join the dark side. BTW the rounded cables works fine in my new mobo.

In my opinion you can't talk about a better processor, but I personally admit that the reason why I use AMD is because of the price. I had a P2 in the early days, was very satisfied about it, but to buy a P4 or an AMD XP now, that's a huge price difference... And some of us just can't afford that. At least I can't.
