ie 6 on xp (sp1) popups hanging browser?

hi all, past few days ive not been able to click on certain links on sites and get the popupwindow to open .. the browser just hangs there?? what on earth is going on ..

i dont wanna have to resinstall just cos ie6 is not opening some links; what could be stopping it ?... for example i click on a advert banner to go to crucial.com.uk site but the new window hangs there with no data loaded in the browser Sad this seems to happen alot now on any site

how can ya resinstall ie??lol

i have java installed for ie6 on xp box running updated sp1

Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your computer:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK. Note that you may be prompted to insert the Windows XP installation CD-ROM.
Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, skip the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.

2: Edit the Registry and Install Internet Explorer 6

While you are logged on as an administrator, click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the appropriate registry subkey, right-click the IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value, and then click Modify. To reinstall only the Internet Explorer 6 browser component on Windows XP, use the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
To reinstall only Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP, use the following registry key:

Change the value data from 1 to 0, and then click OK.

By default, Internet Explorer 6 is preinstalled in all versions of Windows XP and cannot be uninstalled.
To provide computer manufacturers more flexibility in configuring desktop versions of Windows XP, Microsoft has made it possible for OEMs, administrators, and users to remove user access to Internet Explorer while leaving the Internet Explorer code intact and fully functional to make sure the functionality of programs and operating system functions that rely on it.
For example, Windows XP supports an "IEAccess=off" switch in the Unattend.txt file, and Internet Explorer has been added to the Add/Remove Windows Components section of the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

IE and ms = cack = resinstall every few weeks= lame ass soft

all working again ..for now Smile


resinstalled ie6 from the web .. just to make sure its new software and not cached

new links to other pages now works Smile ithink system restore had a lot to anwser for i think it was that amongst other things no doubt that caused ie6 to be corrupted....(iused it a few times recently)

You should also download LavaSoft's Ad-Aware and scan for spyware. You'll be surprised how much of that crap is found on a typical system, and all of it has the potential to screw up the browser and Internet connection.

I recently scanned the system of the mother of a friend of mine after she could no longer connect to the Internet, and found nearly 130 spyware components (browser plugins, supporting DLLs and cookies) on her system.

I ran Ad-Aware, told it to remove all that junk, and presto, problem fixed, and browsing was much faster than she remembered it to be.
