sounds to me like you need to do LLF and then see what you got...formatting your drive multiple times creates clutter your doin formats
Do a low level and then reload your pc...make sure that al your "regional" settings are correct

xp

what operating system are you using? xp,2000 pro??

well go right click My computer then properties
then go to the Advanced tab then towards the bottom click seetings in the start-up and recovery field in about the middle should be a checkbox for automatically restart under system failure uncheck that. i had a problem with this with a compaq computer i had. it was either the hard drive failing or the operating system but i took it back and got a new one. hope this helps ya.

If you have a GeForce card, change the drivers. In case you got the "infinite loop" error.

Check the heat.

Your computer may restart due to lack of power, or too high temperature. I had this very same problem.

might be....

try flashing your bios and or installing latest mobo drivers. It might be your mobo isnt very acpi compatible. If that dont work...start a fresh windows install and when its loading all the setup drivers...bang on the F8 key a few times to force it to not install acpi mode. It actually runs faster without it anyway. you can also change acpi to standard pc by upgrading driver through device manager.

Reboot

I had same issue...pc uses more resources running xp so it may be running hotter...if motherboard overheads it may just be rebooting as a safety in the bios
i tested my opening my case and having a fan pointed at the mobo...

Your Power Supply is under too much strain(Check your 3.3v and 5v lines with motherboard monitor) or your memory timings are too aggressive.

Whats your system config??
