The reviews I've seen show the 5600-NonUltra being beaten by the Ati 9500 and 9700/9800, and even by a GF4Ti 4400 in many benches and games.....

Having just switched to a ATi card after using Nvidia for years, I really have to recommend the 9500 or 9700 over any GFFX out at the moment. Big Grin

(faster than ">" , slower than "<" based on benchmarks)

FX5600Ultra>TI4200 (slightly)
FX5600Ultra< TI4800

9500PRO>TI4200
9500PRO>FX5600Ultra

9700>TI4600
9700PRO>TI4800

9800PRO>FX5800Ultra
9800PRO<FX5900Ultra

Note that after a bad launch and weak successors the FX5900Ultra finally showed what FX was suppose to be, though somewhat was faster than the 9800PRO, after all this time it took all it did was replace their failed cards, while ATI has some time to show more power later on.

The fact is that TI4800 is faster than the 5600, but the price of a 5600 cost more than the TI4800 (by 30-50$) considering it is 256mb, though none of the games today would be needing it soon.

Considering the the Alienware site only has FX5600-5900Ultra and 9700-9800Pro as a choice you would have to go with how much money you are willing to spend.

5600 = dont really care about having the best (can play todays games, may have problems with some, maybe tomorrows)
5800Ultra = super gamer (can play todays/tomorrows games)
5900Ultra = hardcore gamer, wanting the best of nVidia (can play todays/tomorrows games)

9700 = super gamer (can play todays/tomorrows games)
9800Pro(128)= hardcore gamer (can play todays/tomorrows games)
9800Pro(256) = hardcore gamer, wanting the best of ATI (can play todays/tomorrows games)

All in all its all about how you are willing to spend, the $$$, dont care about budget then go for the best, but you should watch out on what you buy because even old cards can be faster ie: (GFTI4800 vs FX5600Ultra) at which TI4800 is 30$ or so dollars lower.

Depending on if you're an nVidia fan and will stay nVidia or change to ATI, the choice is yours.

But my recommendation is ATI for their image quality is superior, without impacting their performance.

Good?Bad? I would have to say the 5600 is good for today, but decent tomorrow? maybe not (Doom 3 type games)

i have a 5200 ultra, it is a fine card.
plays rtcw, like a dream, but i cap my fps at 70 for in game play.
never owned an ati, but they seem to have more features built in than nvidia.
always played online with nvidia. (since q2 anyhow)
i will say this, nvidia has lots of driver updates, for better or worse, so if you like to putz, nvidia would be the way to go

FX 5600 is a very good Gamerscard.

The FX 5600 is a very good gamerscard. You must have a look by yourself how many memory you need, 128 or 256.

The best card i know is : Point of view FX 5600 128mb. I am working at the Technical Department of that company, and know a lot of vga cards.

There are more important things on a vga card. You must have a look at the memoryspeed , most for this cards 3.6 ns or 4 ns. The clockspeeds and memoryspeed together makes you have a fast and strong card.

And a very good cooler with ramsinks.

I only see here mostly the results of 3Dmark2001, that is the speed of the card, for the strengt and full testing of the DirectX 9 functions you need 3Dmark 2003.

The best card on the moment i tested is the FX 5900. If you really want to spend some money and want the best, buy it.

RTCW is not a good example for card speeds. My friend runs it full detail with a AIW 7500 so it can't be a good example Tongue
