Geforce FX 5200 Ultra Black and White Output problem

Hi Guys

Got an unusual problem with my Nvidia card. About a day ago it was all fine, I could video out from my PC perfectly to my TV as I always have.

I tried yesterday and the output was Black and White, but if I tried to apply the setting( to see if would apply the B&W setting anyway), then the select option for Single, Clone etc just reverts to single and you have to restart the computer to get the options back.

I have just installed a new SB Live 5.1 sound card into the PCI slot 2 places down from the AGP slot, and I am thinking perhaps this is using too much power or is causing some sort of conflict?!

On a seprate note, I was testing an ATI Radeon 9500 card in place of my Geforce FX for a little while and I just swapped the cards over - didn't install or uninstall any new drivers.

The freaky thing is, when I opened the case to take out the video card and put it back in, the case and interior was incredibly hot. Not sure if this is a related problem - Just moved to a new place and it is very hot in Australia at the moment OR the sound card is using too much power for the case to handle.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Hey Guys

Thanks for your brilliant posts, I did take off the case and put on a fan next to it, which hopefully will stop the heat problem (Mobo was last at 45 degrees and CPU 74 degrees (not sure if the CPU temp is too high but my fan is only 3300 RPM)).

Tried removing new sound card and putting back in, but to no avail. Also installed new drivers. I did notice that the heatsink gets incredibly hot. Still, the output is Black and white and if I try to save, I can only select Single display. The if I close the screen and go to Display>Properties I can't even chose an Nview mode, its completely dissappeared from the list.

I think its the card, but still doesn't explain the sudden stop and the Nvidia settings dissappearing.

Would anyone else have any ideas? Thanks!!

Check the output is right. I mean PAL/NTSC because if the output is NTSC and the TV is PAL you usually get a black anch white image.

Yeah, the thing is, it was fine 24 hours before. But within that 24 hours I did install the sound card, which is only thing I can think of that would have caused the problem.

=(
that sucks,
Check drivers,
if your CPU is 74C thats tooooooo hot, you want that thing down to 40 man...

Anyways, im out of ideas, try the card in another PC to see if it works. if it doesnt, its safe to say the card is ofically shot.
