free ram

how much free ram should u have running normal applications? i downloaded a tweak for my ram and i can keep 300-340 free when running programs,internet,etc. i thought this was pretty good huh? i have 384megs w/winME. whats everyones thoughts? laterrrrrrrrrr Big Grin

ha haha...sorry. to be freed up right before u load a game, so u dont have to close your background programs so much. figured it helped some. just wanted to know if it does or not.

What windows are you running? The amount free before you run a game helps the most on 95/98/ME systems.
On the NT based systems like 2000 and XP there is a much better memory manager and it will move the background programs out of ram by itself as the game needs more space, so using a mem tweak program on XP/2k isnt really worth the hassle and can sometimes cause a heap of swapping to hdd which ends up making everything slower.
