First Geforce FX Review

What's your feedback about Geforce FX ?

I was very happy when the specs were revealed on the net months ago , lots of new technologies inside (DDR2, 0.13 process ...) and hopefully a giant step in 3d enthousiasts market .

What i see now disapoints me a lot , performance are not great at all , ok beta drivers but for working with direct3d as developper , i've seen the bottleneck that represents bandwith fail . You can have the fastest 3d chip , dealing with billions of vertex , if you cant't display them all before the vertical sync , you're done ... This seems to be a major problem :-? and that's where it looses power again the r9700 sadly .

About the loud noise of the heatsink , i think that's another major problem , latest pc's already give a hard time with the flow air inside and we've never had so much noise coming from a pc that now . With the GF FX , when you switch to 3D you get a massive noise appearing , is it fun to wait for a tempest (air flow) , i mean when you lauch a game ?

I'm not into nvidia-ati flame wars , i use them all to work , especially the best one , but this time i think nvidia has lost his crown and made a big leap backward ...

When was the last time a German review was accurate to the real world?...especially a review of a product that isn't out.

nVIDIA is desperatly throwing what they have in our faces to reclaim the throne, I only get more and more disappointed, im getting a radeon 9700, never heard an experienced person complain about any Radeon card from 8500 and up. They are good at everything, not just getting loads of FPS in a benchmark, and I will save about 150$ by doing so!

although i too am quite dissapointed, i think we should wait until the 3dmark2k3 benchmark comes to pass judgment. Or atleast some kind of DX9 benchmark.

I think at present nobody can really be satisfied with what Nvidia brings us in the next months. The lead over the Radeon 9700 Pro is a very small one, if it's not slower in current benchmarks. But I wonder how things will look like when it comes to Doom3, maybe that's gonna be the benchmark for the FX to surpass the Radeons performance at a considerable high margin. Especially when there are Detonators with better FX optimization and less bugs. On the other hand ATi's R350 looms ahead so I guess we should wait and see

dont jump to conclusions

i agree with trekstar .. your should wait for a directx 9 benchmark and see who wins... but i know that the R350  will kill geforce fx but probably the nv 35 Big Grin will kill the r350 so i think we should wait to see besides geforce fx got DDR II with 1 GHZ of speed :o LOL

did some research

i did some research and found out that geforce fx is better in the benchmark.. it losses in the bandwith but to cover that lose that have a compressed colour in the memory having smother edges..

geforce is better and also both ati radeon 9700 pro and the geforce fx 5800 ultra is to be estimated the same price

Well, the FX Ultra will have a much higher price, granted. But it will kick anything. Don't forget the product isnt out yet - and for as long as it isn't out you CANT say what it does to radeon or not. Also remember that these cards aren't interesting at all today. When they will be is when DX9 appears with the very first games using it. Roll on Doom III and Breed. Just be patient this is not a good moment to upgrade 3D card. It will be once the first few games appear.
