you may have vsync option moved to default on ??? got driver properities and reset to default ... a driver reinstall will not do this maybe Vsync is activated in doom stealing performance
since the rest is OK

Ok goliath since you and me have the same mobo you need to update your bios by using the MSI liveUpdate and going up to version 1.8. The high temps you were complaining about are fixed in the bios update, the sensor is actually giving the wrong temps until you update it.

The loading slow down you get is just not enough ram plain and simple. You could possibly turn off a lot of uneeded services in the background before playing. Things like your printer spooler, Printer drivers, viruscaners, firewalls etc ... are not needed for the game and will free up some system resources for you. (Also make sure you setup your virtual swap file to a constant file size typically 1.5x your amount of ram, so set the min and max to same size.)

The tearing you seem to be getting is because you turned Vsync off. With Vsync off the vid card is running a dif refreash rate than your monitor and can cause the tearing if the differences are big enough. YOu might wanna turn on Triple Buffer and turn on Vsync and see what you can do. Another tip is the try that 40% increase story on the warp2search webpage .. and I believe the 4.9s are faster at it, but I still use to 4.7s.

i have bios 1.81 on the mobo; i emailed msi tech and thats the 1 they sent me; before the update the temperatures were in the 80s; now i have idle temp of 54 and load is 62

im buying another 512ram and the 9800xt is now here, but yet to be installed...

ive kept vsync on but now frames are locked at either 30 or 60, but this seems to be a fairly common problem and hopefully will get fixed with an update

ive got catalyst 4.4s as the 4.9s i d/ld didnt work at all; as for the 40% thing i havent had any change and now get artifacts Sad

im seriously thinking of selling the 9800xt and go back to nvidia and get the 6800 even tho its only 10% faster and display quality is lower on nvidia it seems

i really with i had got another nvidia/intel at this point...

Hey all,

I know this must get asked a LOT, but if anyone gets the time, lemme knnow. My specs are below, and I have limited funds, so have decided based on a lot of reading to upgrade the Gr. Card to a Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB), hopefully cooled by a Arctic Colling device if I can see a good deal on Ebay.

Will it play ok?

1. Would a 256MB version make any REAl differnce?
2. Is this gonna make much differnce anyway without a CPU upgrade?
3. Is ATI the way to go here?

Thanks,

Mark.
