Direct3d draw has died

Geforce 256 card running under WinXP. Everythings fine until I've installed Q306676 hot fix from microsoft as recommended by a friend for a GTA3 problem.

Now Direct3d is dead (DXDiag DirectDraw is disabled and AGP Texture Acceleration is diabaled).

I've reinstalled NVIDIA, tried re-installing DIrectX 8.1, everyhting. ANy ideas before I blwo everything away and re-load WinXP ?

The XP333 is an Ali board right? Nvidia went stupid and disabled Ali's AGP support on several newer drivers. You can force it on by downloading the latest ali agp driver and using the ali agp utility to force what you want.

Rivatuner also lets you force AliAGP in the power user section.

They probably disabled it on a Geforce 256, with a VIA chipset, since they were well known to cause crashes in Win2000. Since XP drivers are usually the 2000 ones as well, they left it disabled..... I would assume.
