dx file

yep i downloaded the one you linked to, and ran mdxredist, but again it came up with:

Managed Direct X (900):

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908

Then:

An error has occured during the installation of an assembly component
{D84FE9C4-ECFA-4986-9477-E59BD7311DA5}.
HRESULT: -2147319761

Should mention im running windows XP sp1 on an amd athlon 2200+ with 512mb ddr on a ecs k7s5a motherboard.

Don't run mdxredist.msi but dxsetup.exe
That will do the trick! Tongue

You could try the fix that was released last night for DirectX 9...
It fixes the DXDiag problem but it may also help your problem Smile
I'm unsure of a link but try searching Google.

Sounds to me like a corrupt download. Turn off any downloadmanagers you might have running. They tend to screw up your downloads.

You can try to unzip the file with an external decompressor first but I don't know if it can be unzipped with an external decompressor. If it says it doesn't recognize the format it can't be decompressed with an external decompressor. If it starts decompressing but halts and says the file is corrupt then... the file is corrupt and you need to download the file again.

corrupt download, I'd download it with an app like getright. Prevents things like that, even if your using cable/dsl. Ie likes to cut off at the last 2k of a download, freakin annoying.

Did you download it from http://www.microsoft.com. You can also download it from there. It will take you 3 hours. Then you can install it. Why don't you download DirectX 9.a. That is better than this one.

Of course. But you will get something changed differently. So that's atleast better.
