Direct X 9 - Is it worth it

Hi

Can someone tell me whether this new DirectX 9 pre-release is worth installing, downloading the web-setup & had a message that this version expires end 3/03, so not sure whether to wait for the final release (whenever that may be?? ) as I don't want this to screw my machine up after reboot ...

thx

Unless you have hardware and drivers that support dx9, the upgrade is worthless. Not to mention its only a RC0 so the chances of it bombing your system are pretty good Wink

DX9 is actually worse whilst drivers and games have not been optimized for it. When Nvidia/ATI release DX9 compatible drivers....and you have the final DX9 installed, you may see an improvement in DirectX games and score in 3DMark2K1

rc0 works great here, compared 2 beta1+2+3 i could up the fsb a little
and gave my powercolor 9700 an extra core kick from 391 2 398...
so far it`s a nice thing (what was 2 b expected after, hm, 3 hours?)
the benchmarkers had some impacts in there 3dmark bible, but i "came"
from dx9 beta 3 and so i must say i gained a few points. but the extra
tuning and the stability r really impressive. i`m using the new ati drivers
4 this m$-dx release, so i`ll update my other mashines 2morrow or
at weekend. sometimes everything goes fine rite after the start.
great job

I installed it based on the fact that I had no problems with the other dx9 betas and it f'd my system up. All my directx games now crash to the desktop.

This is on:

MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU
384mb Kingston PC2100
AthlonXP 1600+
Visiontek GF4 Ti4600 w/ det. 30.82 & 40.72

Sucks to be me

Good choice. I was able to find a little program that allowed me to uninstall dx9, but it's still not worth it.
