Different revisions of the GeForce4 Ti 4600 chip... =(

Hello,

Four weeks ago I bought a CreativeLabs 3D Blaster4 card with the NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 chip.
I wanted to add some thermalpaste so I removed the Heatsink from the Chip. I saw that my chip has stepping "A2" (0204A2) and also isn't marked with "GeForce4 Ti", only with the "code-name" NV25 ULTRA.
Two friend of mine who have GeForce4 Ti 4600 boards, too have revision "A3" chips (0208A3) wich are marked with "GeForce4 Ti 4600"!
Is my chip a "sample-version" or so? Do I have some disadvantages because of having an "A2"-chip? What is new in the A3-revision?
I am a bit afraid, because the GeForce3 I had before had "A5-revision" although I bought it at the very beginning of the GeForce3 series and a friend of mine who bought his GeForce3 Ti 500 last week also has "A5-stepping" GeForce3, which means that there was no changing in hardware all the time. But now with my GeForce4 Ti 4600 I have an "old" version of the chip while my friend who bought the chip (card) only one week later have a new stepping...?!?!
Please let me know if I have a "bad" chip and if I could contact my vendor for replacement of the card because of this... .

Thanks a lot,

Guest

It seems no one knows what (if) the difference is except for the nvidia employees.

Basicly, the only known difference is he O/C potential. Some A3s have been getting high speeds.. however, the A2s are actually doing better, so no, do NOT return your card.. 90% of GF4 4600 owers, including myself use the A2 core.. IF there is a problem, nVidia will release a recall (as with the GF3 A3 cores), and then i would say return it.. till then, enjoy the fastest card on the plannet.. Smile
