Difference between 5664 drivers and 6176 drivers

OS: Windows98se
ram: 512m
PNY FX 5900 card

MS Ages of Empires Gold (Ages of Kings) runs fine with 5664 drivers!
-uninstall them & install 6176 drivers & run "Ages of Kings" immediate BSOD
-uninstall 6176 drivers & install 5664 drivers "Ages of Kings" runs fine

there can't be that much of a difference between the drivers can there?
Maybe there is a setting i can change?

another one? - not sure what you mean. I downloaded another set (6176) from a different source but the same thing happened.

win98 is a dead os, too old for your hardware. I'd switch to win2k or xp if i was you...

those dets are not illegal ...
you can try them as you want ...
and yes he is right ... win98 is really out of date ....
since you have quite new hardware ...as from GPU side you should really consider upgrading ...
I would recommend XP with SP2 integrated

nvidea drivers bug

Warning: the late nividia drivers have a serious bug

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Warning:

I recently installed the late drivers from nvidia, wasnt that great...

but what I did notice was some of my menu options had disappeared...

namely:

1) The 'New' function and its associated submenu
2) The Thumbnail selection from the View Menus
3) File sharing functions
4) File copying functions
5) DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) functions
(list obtained from _http://www.x-setup.net/forum/showthread.php?t=475 )

I tried reinstalling my old driver incase, but no good, the items were still missing... they would not come back...

I had to resort to going to the microsoft newsgroups to find a cure...

although, after many hours & many posts obtaining help I did eventually manage to put my windows back to its normal self, it was found to be the later nvidia drivers which caused the problem by removing reg entries when they tried to make it integrate into the windows menu system... instead of adding one, they deleted a batch of windows ones... the only cure is to replace all the reg entries deleted by nvidia...

unfortunately, nvidia appear to have totally ignored this prob & have not even offered a fix of theirs, nor have they updated the drivers to fix this problem neither...

so beware, i would recommend giving these drivers a miss until a new update is available addressing this particular problem...
