detonators suck

I often try new detonator drivers, but every single one except the whql 41.09's have problems on my machine. Anytime I change the volume in quake3 the screen goes really dark. I do have the onscreen volume level bar, and suspect it causes some sort of refresh f**k-up. But why would the one set of drivers do fine with this? Sure the difference is that the good ones are whql, but can nvidia not fix this on their own, or does MS give the stupid bastards some help. Oh yeah, and the 30.82whql's work fine, too. Make that 2 driver versions....sorry. And I installed all of them properly before those responses come @ me. Anybody have similar probs? Know why they do this? I'm not 100% sure that it is a whql cert thing though, because only the 2 versions work properly and no other whql driver have. Pretty sure my next card will be an ATi though...heard they've been bustin butt and the catalyst drivers just keep improving.
Whereas everything @ nvidia seems to be losing ground in the quality dept. please respond to any of this.

Forget Nvidia Detonators, it's time to move to ATI. I was a hard core Nvidia fan but not anymore. Since last year I've sold my Geforce 3,4 and purchased ATI 8500 LE 128 MB, 9000 PRO 128 mb, 9500 PRO 128MB and 9700 128MB. All work good except 9700 versions runs kind of hot.

Personaly i have nevver had any issues with Det drivers (certified or not) or Nvidia cards come to that over a period of 8 years. ATi do now make good cards (9500 & 9700) and drivers but i still prefer Nvidia and wiil be after a GF FX Ultra before to long.

I bulked up on the early ATi Radeons...and finally got fed up and moved to nVidia (I've always liked ATi because they made stable cards...that was no more with the Radeon)...

The only detonator I have ever had problems with was the 23.11s...I wish I could name a single ATi driver to this day any of my Radeons work right with...To hell with ATi.

i've been a 3dfx fan since my first 3dfx card a voodoo 3 pci, i bought the voodoo 4 and than 3 dfx went out of business. at the time a geforce 2 Ti looked good and i was going to get it, than my "maximum pc" issue came and gave the radeon 8500 a perfect score, so i bought the card and it's the card i still use, maybe one day i'll buy a 9700 but not now i like my 8500 to much, ive had occiansunal problems with the catalyst but nothing that wasn't fixed the next version.

Are all of your problems arising from a volume OSD? I used to have a keyboard with some funky extra features but I turned the osd off long ago because it interferes with fullscreen applications... perhaps this'll help? I've been a det user for about 6 years and never had any real problems....

Guess why nVidia didn't release any of them besides 41.09

ah yeah, and you are shure that your OSD thingy will work w/ ATi drivers? Hey, if there's anything you cannot diz Nvidia for it is bad drivers. I am no hardcore Nvidia fan, the only NV cards I bought were TNT2 Pro and GeForce2 Pro. For both cards I always got great compatability and performance with any game. My next card will most likely be ATi, though and I hope their drivers are really as good as most users in this forum reported. If 4109 drivers work fine for you why don't you stick with them?

stop crying because nvidia beta drivers contain bugs, hehehe that's ridiculous. that kinds of topics let me believe that nvidia is really untouchable.
