Couldnt find what Odin was refering to in nv4_disp.inf & think i can see why, seems the new 27.42 nv4_disp.inf file size is 25k, earlier ones like 27.20 nv4_disp.inf file size is 217k, it appears all the refresh information is missing from the 27.42 inf file.

Not really a flame: Reading is hard for you?

Guys....

it´s much easier to modify your monitor.inf instead of your display.inf.

It´s just one setting to change instead of many and it works for every driver. New and old. :smile:

OK... I'd love to use this driver, but 60hz sucks ass. "ZTN's refresh rate fix" will probably not be updated (or not soon from the developers dedication to updating it per his site). Some say you can change something in the card or monitor infs. So what do I exactly change?

The card inf is a bit more confusing than it once was. As for the monitor driver, i'd appreciate some insight on understanding its cryptic refresh/resolution entry.

My monitor driver .inf:

I don´t think, that is easier. You have to do it for every new driver. And i´m not 100% sure that the new driver uses the old registry scheme.

For "anonymous" two posts ago:

This is the important part of your monitor inf:

GDM-FW900.AddReg]
HKR,"MODES2304,1440",Mode1,,"30.0-121.0,48.0-160.0,+,+"
HKR,,ICMProfile,0,"sony_d93.icm"

You see 48.0-160.0,+,+ . This is your range of refreshrates.

Change it to e.g. : 85.0-85.0,+,+ and reinstall your monitor. Then it only allows refreshrates with 85hz. The Grafikcard-Driver recognizes this and everything is ok.

Hi folks,
here is the solution for the refrashrate-problem. I am a former ATI-user and I had to live over half a Year without a programm to fix it.

So well, start regedit and go to HKey_Local_UserSystemControllset001ControllClass4D36E96E..000Modes1920,1440.
You have to chance Mode1 from 27.0-115.0,50.0-160.0,+,+
to 27.0-115.0.85.0-160.0,+,+

I mean that you have to change the third number in your prefered refreshrate. Let every other number unchanged. Do it at your on risk.
For me it worked perfect.

BTW, the new 27.43 is beautyfull :wink:

this is a fix for the refresh rate problem :smile:
after u run setup edit the nv4_disp.inf from the temp directory where it's unpacked by setup. Let's say u have a good old NV20 chip ... GF3 ... u'll want to look for this

; NV20 (NV20) Supported Reference Modes
;
; NOTE: 640x480 MUST be listed FIRST in this list !!!!!
;

HKR,, NV20_Modes, %REG_MULTI_SZ%, "8 640 480 60 70 72 75 85 100 120 0"

where 8 is the bit depth, 640 480 is the res, and 60, 70 etc. are the supported refresh rates for that resolution/bit-depth. Edit the lines u need to set the refresh rates. U could also save all those files from the temp dir to have a permanent fix in case u have to reinstall the driver :smile:. This works with all drivers, just be sure to edit the nvidia card that u have :smile:.

have phun :wink:

I tried this wif the new drivers yesterday already.. it dun work for me

Ok I have a real problem here. First off I've install many a driver and have never been faced with this problem.

I uninstalled my video driver to install the 27.42s. When I attepmt to install the new driver everything seems to be going well until the end of the process. I get an error saying that it can't find the driver and it cancels the installation. This happens when it's done installing though. It appears as though it installed the driver but I guess it doesn't. I tried to install my previous driver and now I get the same error message. I tried like 5 different drivers with the same results. The only driver it will let me install is the standard VGA. I'm stumped and until I get this fixed I'm working with no drivers here. This has never happened before and all my troubleshooting has found nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I had to reinstall XP. Now all is well again. I'm going to stick with the 23.12s for now. I'm a little gun-shy with these 27.42s, seeing how all this happened with the attempted installation of them.
