normaly, in czech everything is cheaper there.....cheaper than in Germany

but MANY things are not original, mostly at the Border to Germany the most are replicas, means that Musik/Video/Game are illegal copies and clothes aren´t the best quality...but it´s cheap

so i´ve never been in Praque i can´t tell how much cheaper the Hardware is, but i think.....MUCH CHEAPER

220V/50HZ with German power adapter and it´s looking

and if u want to know:
CZK 1 = 100 Haleru.
CZK 100 = ca. € 3,05. € 1 = ca. CZK 33

goliath,

Where do you live? If moving from the UK, then you'll need to use the (pretty standard) EU power sockets. You can buy adapters anywhere for UK plugs to EU sockets.

However, you may want to look into buying new cables once in Czech for things like the PC, monitor, etc and a few plugs for other electronic appliences. It'll look less messy overall Smile

As for prices, most hardware is more expensive in the Czech Republic. The reason for this is that there just isn't the competitive market that you find in other European countries. So while what Biene said can often be true, when it comes to Electronic Goods you'll pay something between 0-40% more in Czech.

However, there are a few e-tailers popping up over there where good deals can be had. Also, if you find yourself a nice little independent PC shop somewhere (don't worry, they'll speak at least some English), you'll find things like Cables, Ribbons and other comp odds and ends will be cheaper.

Just a FYI... games, music CD's and DVD's are also generally more pricey in Czech. And getting the latest and greatest hardware, no matter how much you're prepared to pay, is going to be hard work.

Any questions, just ask in this thread.

i did a sort of 'equity release' and sold off my 9800 pro and a tonne of games for £300; i brought a 5700 ultra... the worst move ive ever made i may add. i now have £200 to spend on pc bits so i think ill strip down my pc to the components i want to keep (cpu ram and mobo) and get the rest there, or i may just sell my entire pc as it is still mid-high end and has tft, audigy, 5.1s etc etc and use the money over there.

man i thought that hardware prices in the uk are a joke! if they are 0-40% more there then theres no way i can afford to build up a new system!

i must buy that eu power adapter as i leave on sunday :o

the etailers... are the sites in czech? i dont have the first clue about the country; i heard about charles university through a friend of my dad and took the exam when i missed my uni grades. it all looks very impressive and majestic from the ads and im pretty sure that its a good uni, as it is recognosed here and in the usa, but im only really going on what the unis own video and website say and theyd be giving it the best light about the student life and cost of living there. does any1 here know anything about this uni and what the halls etc are like? i cant find anything about prague living aside it being v v scenic and i was told that it is v cheap as well. does anyone know what its like? is it a friendly place? are the women nice ??

are there loads of fakes in prague? if so, please tell me where to look as i dont want to pay through the nose to get a game/dvd. also are there any hollywood films shown there? if so are they dubbed over in czech?

please also tell me where to get the authentic stuff as i dont want to be ripped off!

i know that this is a hardware forum but are book prices relitively cheap, as i still have a few days to buy the critical books (like greys anatomy)

another question: do they have indian restaurants there? if anyone knows please tell me as that is my fave food (tho ive heard czech food is good- big steaks and lotsa cheap beer!)

No, in such countries electronics are very expensive for the people living there and are also more expensive than can be found in some other Western European countries.

I'll answer the rest of the questions later, but my personal favourite e-tailer is http://www.alfacomp.cz/ as (1) They give pretty good service and (2) their prices are most comprable to those found in the UK e-tailers.

Unfortunately, the shop is based on the other side of the country from where you'll be, but they can deliver (as I recall, it's on a Cash on Delivery basis... but I'll check that later too). Just as an example, a Radeon 9800Pro (128MB) would be about 145 quid there, and I think the lowest you'd be able to find that in the UK is only about 10 quid cheaper online.

its quite a while ago since I have been in romania and at that time (when Celeron was quite popular) the PC was at same price as it was here ... it wasn't the latest generation ... but price was normal
