CFS3 contains DirectX8.2..?

Patched as part of the installation procedure, it seems. Not seen anything about a further-patched DX past 8.1b...

Anyone know WTF..? A purpose-designed compatibility patch? (MS have to patch their own code for compatibilty - C'mon..?)

Its Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 and indeed it installs some 8.2 files with version number: 5.02.36677.0134 Final Version i believe but im not 100% shure because i already used a mixture from drivers.

But dxdiag displays: DirectX Version: DirectX 8.2 (4.09.00.0080)

Could just be DirectX 8.1 with the DirectPlay 8.2 code. Remember seeing the beta for that a while ago for New World Order

Yeppers it does without any warning. To bad it didn't make the game run properly. It crashes to desktop after 5 min of play.

Here is extract from system requirements:

DirectX 8.2 API or later (included on CD and installed during Setup)
DirectX 8.2 or later compatible16 MB video card
DirectX 8.2 API compatible sound card with speakers or headphones

It does indeed upgrade to 8.2 and leaves even when game is uninstalled. I'm running XP Pro BTW and was at DX 8.1 before install. :o

CFS3 contains DirectX8.2..?

Thanks for that. Those are the DirectPlay files only. Weird!?!

Curious that it would be included in a game for general release, yet not made available as a standard MS update...?

Of course, we haven't got it here in the UK yet, but would certainly be interested in discovering a download package as I don't really feel the need to buy the game just to get the update, but would like to experiment.

NWO

We have found the that Microsoft's DirectX8.1 will create a massive lag. To solve this problem Microsoft has created especially for New World Order a DirectX 8.1 patch (DirectPlay 8.2).

Microsoft has provided the following direct link to the DirectPlay 8.2 beta patch for New World Order. Please note that this is beta code and it is being made publicly available for the current New World Order 2.0 beta release.

The DirectPlay 8.2 beta release requires that DirectX 8.1 be installed on your machine. If you are running an older version of Windows, you can download DirectX 8.1

But I do get it. I merely kept it simple so that even `no names` like you could understand. What I perhaps should have said, to be pedantically correct and avoid such petty sniping, is that it's rather shameful MS have to resort to covert patching of brand new software rather than admit that their baby DirectX might have had a flaw, even after all this time.

Why not just release another patch for Dx8? - could it be that the marketing machine is rolling over DirectX9.0 and they won't tolerate any further mention of DX8.x..? Or do they expect the word to be passed around by the great unwashed, so that they can be seen in a better light when they release it `by public demand`.

Anyway, bitching aside, the results are exemplary. 20 percent better frame rates in FS2002, better FSAA IQ and the ability to use Texture Sharpening without frame rate penalty.

It also has had good results in RTCW and Silent Hunter II so this NWO-sourced patch is an All Round Good Thing.

I dont know if the NWO patch displays the directplay files as beta`s or as finals in dxdiag, but the files that are updated with CFS3 are final versions, i did put the whole package on my website including the EULA LOL

http://138pc222.sshunet.nl/Drivers/DirectX82.zip

The whole package is 27mb
