CD burner and DVD Rom drive

For seemingly no reason, my machine stopped recognizing my DVD ROM and CD burner. I went to Device Manager and it gives my error 19 for them. It says my registry might be corrupted. I uninstalled both the drives and reinstalled them twice. My drivers are current. I even followed the directions in Windows help to change the Enum setting in the registry ( I don't remember exactly what this is called). Nothing seems to work. I am running a P3 933, 256MB RAM and Win 2K Pro. Can anyone help me out?

There always has to be a reason Smile
have you changed the bios?
What have you done prior that incident? (just before...)
If both of the drives were working before i assume you dont have set up the drives as both Slave or Master.... waiting for an answer....

also, if the drives are recognised , in the motherboard bios, then uninstall the drivers of both the drives(in the systems properties), while the hardware is connected, and let the O/S reinstall, also try to unistall and reinstall the Via , or Intel or whatever motherboard chipset you have IDE drivers.

well, I was first having a problem with buffer underrun errors. For this, I tried to download the update for Easy CD Creator. Ever since I did that, I was having more problems with CD Creator. Then, last night I uninstalled Easy CD Creator and then that is when I started to get this problem. I should have mentioned that before.....sorry about that. I have never changed any master or slave settings. Those setting are whatever it came from the factory with.

Easy CD creator had some problems with Win2000 and XP so try to avoid it, best try another CD burning program if you have one. ...If the program is still installed unistall it clean the registry with a registry cleaner install it again , do not restart the machine before you install the patch then restart... and see what happens.... I hope you find it helpful

My answer to this question is the same as the rest of the forum answered you, go for Nero ,I 've been using it for quite long time without any problems. Easy CD creator interface is a bit easier but still it has some problems, (bugs) . Also other software can be found but they are not as good as Nero you can try them and see... (Demos) . Some of them are: DiskJuggler, Alcohol 120%(not many features, best for copying CD's with protection) and others...

okay this problem is still haunting me. I cleaned my registry with the program from jv16.org. I deleted all the entries that it said were safe to delete and also the ignored ones that i recognized from adaptec. It still says in my device manager that my registry MAY be corrupted. Thanks for the info microsoft. anyway, when I uninstall the drives, does it delete all the registry entries? If not, how do I go about doing this? I'm not even sure if this is what I need to do. I am totally confused by this.....damn Adaptec. Any help would be appreciated.
