My 2¢ worth

The problem is the Easy CD Creator installed Adaptec ASPI drivers, yet you don't have an Adaptec Controller in you system. And what's worse is that once these ASPI drivers are installed Windows doesn't let go easilly. Normally the installation software detects your hardware and this won't happen.

First, Try downloading a fresh copy of the software update you installed. (I would provide a link but I'm not sure exactly which version you have?) Edit the Registry again and remove All references to Adaptec. You should also delete the "temp files" found at > "C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\Local Settings\Temp..." This Should Prevent Windows from reinstalling the same drivers again. Now try to restart you system and have the Windows CD handy. It may, or may not, install drivers. (You could also go into Device Manager and have it "Scan for Hardware Changes" at this point - It might help!?!) If not Reinstall the Easy CD Creator software, and then reinstall the update. (Make sure you are installing the proper update.)

WARNING!! If you didn't previously Uninstall Easy CD Creator You may get an Install Shield Error, or the Software may not want to reinstall.

Ultimately you may have to reinstall your OS. :o I know that's not what you wanted to hear!! Perhaps some sharp Techs here can tell you which CAB file to find the ASPI drivers in, but those are system level drivers so I'm not sure how to get the ASPI layer restored. Short of the above suggestion, or an OS reload. Cry

i thought that my system may have just been installing the same drivers and that could be the problem so i'll try to delete the files in that folder you specified. i no longer plan on using adaptec anymore. if i delete every reference to adaptec in the registry and delete the driver files in the profile (the folder you specified in the last response), do you think that would fix my problem?

Alright I've tried everything I can think of (and everything that was suggested) with no success. I think I just have to suck it up and reinstall the OS. I can tell you that I'll never use Roxio or Adaptec products again. Thanks to everyone for their help.
