BIOS Installations

Well, I have yet another question for all you techies who are really intelligent Tongue

How do I install a video card BIOS. I got one for my ti4200 verto card. I have a 60kb .rom file. Please tell me what to do, risks, what it can bring, and the rest...

Thanks.

you can always fuck up video bios's and fix them, its not that risky, cuz u can pop a pci card in and reflash the old one

What u do is boot off a floppy disk, win98 or so,

run the BIOS flash program of your choise, preferablly if your video card company makes one, use it

then when in dos

c:\>"video flash program" "rom image" <hit enter>

and you should be on your way

If you have downloaded the flash utilities and .rom. Boot in to dos using 98 boot disk if you are running windows XP. If you are using NTFS (New type file system), don't put your flash utilities and .rom in that partition because boot disk won't recognise NTFS. If you don't have a FAT (File allocated table) partition, Just put those flash utilities and .rom in a floopy disk.

In dos switch to the directorie you put all your flash utilities and .rom then
type NVFLASH -fFilename. Filename is the name of your .rom.

Watch out for the keyboard lights, they will make a pretty pattern to assure that it is still working.

rebot when it is finished.

If you do it the wrong way or any thing goes wrong your system will not start any more. Fear not because you can put in a PCI VGA card to reflash the AGP card and it will functioning as before again.

Oh... Check out the Bios editor (http://www.guru3d.com) before you flash your card. Tongue

due to NTFS (win2k, winxp)
make a ram drive, load the image to the ram drive, then flash it from there

Right I have a PNY Verto ti4200, Windows XP, a Win98SE disk, a 20gb FAT hard drive, and a rom file.

I dont know if I have a flash utility, certainly didnt install one unless it comes with Detonator (Which I don't think it does).

So I just type this ?

c:\nvflash ti4200.rom

What exactly can be referred to as "the wrong way" ?
That .rom file was sent to me by someone with the exact same card as me, does that guarantee the flashing will work ?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm worried about my hardware...
