That's right, but I knew that before the game was released, I got a friend, that has a friend that works at DICE (Digital Illussions) that I spoke with about my problem, he didn't know about any mem leakage, only incompability with Creative cards, especially "Live!" cards, which are the most common I would guess, that's quite crappy.

Hey, this game not so picky for me as it seems to be for you. Runs great on my main comp P4 2.53, 9700P, 1GB. I installed it on my P3 866, GF3 Ti500, 512MB and it works great, max detail @1024x768. Also installed it on slot-A T-bird 850, GF2MX400, 256MB. Ran like a pile of shit initially, updated to DX 9.0a and downloaded latest Nvidia drivers (wanted Omega's ones but mirror was down) and it's very playable at medium settings, 800x600. So my suggestions:

1. Update DirectX and drivers
2. Turn off all forms of AA and Aniso. AA, even from my 9700 Pro, makes BF1942 look like dog puke (text mostly, but noticeable elsewhere too)
3. @ Anonymous - SP1 is no problem for my slipstreamed install, but on my previous install I found a patch which made my system much more responsive. Not sure where I saw it (probably here!) but filename is "XPSP1speedfix.exe", filesize 549k. If you can't find it email me and I can send it to you (BadReligionPR@myeastern.com)
4. Turn of lightmaps as they are real disadvantage (inside building=dark. very very useful  )

@ KennyKen - Does it crash or do you get the little black box and then go to desktop?

About the Creative problem - using Audigy 1 here, problem was quite noticeable when I was running Audigy 1 drivers. Supposedly using Audigy 2 drivers fixes this also - I have installed these and really like the quality!, but have yet to test with BF1942. Also old Audigy 1 drivers did not access center channel at all anyway.
