According to latest roadmap for desktop chipset from Intel, 945 Express chipset family will soon be defined as model for entry level in early 2007, replacing old 965 & 915 chipset. In addition to simplify the product line, there will be a 945GC chipset to replace the existing 945G and 945GZ chipset as well.

The industry said the new 945GC chipset is designed for Pentium E1000 family that the maximum FSB is only 800MHz. This would be a shape level separation to 965 chipset which supports 1066MHz Core 2 Duo processors. Although 945GC supports Dual Channel, it just has 1 DIMM per each memory controller such that the maximum memory supported is dropped from 4GB to 2GB. Yet its PCI- Express x16 interface can compensate the weak and even more attractive than 945GZ.
