ASUS A7N8X DELUXE 2.0 IDE DETECT

I have a problem with the IDE detection at Boot.

I have a Maxtor 120Gb 7200RPM 8MB on Primary IDE as Master, and a Asus CRW-5224A as slave on the same primary IDE. Even tried slave on Secondairy IDE, same problem.

The problem is that every time there is a CD in the drive, the system takes a long time to detect the HD and CDRW. It sort of waits for about 5 sec before detecting whats on the IDE. And if your are thinking that its in my boot sequense you are wrong... only have Maxtor on 1st boot, second, third and other are all disable.

When no CDRom in the drive I boot in about 15 sec (From Power to WinXP welcome screen) Realy fast...

With 5 sec more its still fast, but I wonder wy it does that.

Thanks

I don't have an answer for you, and these probably aren't the best forums for such questions... Head over to AMDMB.com and check out the forums there. There is an Asus forum with just about everything that you would want to know. 8)

I have 2 A7N8X Deluxes (1.04 and 2.0). First I would use the Asus Update and install the new 1007 BIOS. Then download and install the 3.13 nforce drivers from nvidia. The optical drive may be trying to read the disk in it, accounting for the excess boot time...

p.s. Download and save the new Sil 3112 100.40 SATA drivers from the link below yours from garifox. They will come in VERY handy if you ever get any serial ATA drives. I have 2 WD Raptors striped in RAID 0 on one of my setups and it's UNREAL quick...

Hey.............

My advice for you.....Um..Probably IDE SLot could be damaged or change around the usage of your IDE basis....such as leave the CD-roms for the 1st IDE set
and the Hard drives for the 2nd IDE Set
If not..I would..try to get a reference on the ASUS website...and ask for help. Other then that...try to update bios, or reset your CMOS.

Best of luck.
