hey there,
i heard somewhere that it's possible to use the normal amd athlon xp as part of a multiprocessor system. i know it was possible with the thunderbird, but as far as i know, amd took out this routine to make more money selling athlon MPs more expensive.
could somebody please enlighten me?

As the AthlonXP and MP are 99.9% the same, it was possible to use the XP's in dual board systems without problems, even the Duron(XP)'s worked. AMD didn't include any lock in their original XP release.

However I've heard that many newer XP's now come with a lock preventing it, im not sure exactly when they included the lock, but it's pretty safe to say it is hardly worth the risk of it not working anymore. I've seen upto XP1800's working fine in dual boards though, so it must be relatively new.
