AGP memory size and performance

i have a radeon 9600 pro and i have got 64mb agp apeture size enabled.

Int 3dmark 2003 it says:
Description RADEON 9600 SERIES
Manufacturer ATI Technologies Inc.
Total Local Video Memory 128 MB
Total Local Texture Memory 128 MB
Total AGP Memory 56 MB
Driver File ati2dvag.dll
Driver Version 6.14.10.6368
Driver Details 7.91-030625a-010029C-ATI
Driver Date 6-25-2003
Driver WHQL Certified false
Max Texture Width 2048 px
Max Texture Height 2048 px
Max User Clipping Planes 6
Max Active Hardware Lights 8
Max Texture Blending Stages 8
Textures In Single Pass 8
Vertex Shader Version 2.0
Pixel Shader Version 2.0
Max Vertex Blend Matrices 37
Max Texture Coordinates 8
VGA Memory Clock 297.0 MHz
VGA Core Clock 398.3 MHz

What is the AGP memory size meant to be? isnt 56mb small? also shouldnt the card be clocked at 400 core and 600 memory?

I get 3168 in 3dmark 2003 and 8998 in 3dmark 2001. is this ok for a 9600 pro? i thought it was meant to be much more.

System:

P4 2ghz
512DDR RAM @266mhz CL2.5
MSI 845 AR motherboard with AGP 4x
IBM Deskstar 120GXP 80gb HD
Quantum Fireball 15GB
ATI Radeon 9600 pro 128mb
LG CDRW/DVD combo
MSI 52XCDROM

agp apeture size = how much memory is the graphics card allowed to use .... this value is of absolute no sense ... just set it the the max. you can set it ... don't mind about how much RAM you have you can set it to 512 even if you have 128MB RAM .... ist just a useless as FW .... but never set it below 64 or you will have significantly less performance

VGA Memory Clock 297.0 MHz x 2 = 600

Don't forget your memory is DDR.

Your 3Dmark scores are correct, your slow mobo and cpu are a bottleneck for the 9600 pro. The i845 is old and slow...

on the results browser there are other people with 2ghz rigs and they get over 10000 in 3dmark 2001 and 3500+ in 03. the unreal flyby is ok coz i get 121 fps; the botmacth is still only 45 fps. my gf4mx got 42 in this with the same settings!!

However why is there only 56mb of agp memory? shouldnt the total be 192mb?

You can have a 2Ghz on a fast mobo with fast mem. Which is not your case Smile I'd guess ur aperture size is set to 64MB if windows shows 56MB. Try to set it to 128MB in the bios and redo the tests.

AGP Aperature size is the same as a shared memory architecture.
If your card runs out of memory, its the size your video card is allowed to allocate out of your standard memory to put textures into

AthlonXP 2800+ Barton
MSI K7N2-L Nforce2
BFG 6600GT OC
1.5GB DDR333 Dual Channel
16x Pioneer DVD. 48x Lite-On RW.
2x Seagate Baracuda 80GB
Audigy 2ZS w/ 5.1 speakers

botmatch is more dependant of your CPU than of your graphics card, so it shouldnt change unless you change your gfx to something really poor.

Goliath, aren't you reading the posts? You got it explained over and over, and not just in this topic. Get a better mobo with faster memory! Or, as long you are happy with how the games you play perform, don't bother.

i didnt mean them to be the same

i dont know what planet all u supergeeks live on, but last time i saw a 2ghz wasnt cutting edge, but it was still half decent.

all i wanted to know in this thread was what this agp memory is and whether it affects performance as in my other thread i was told the reason for poor game performance at default settings was due to my rig.

i dont mean to sound ungrateful, but ive seen other systems on a 2ghz machine and agp 4x get way better performance.

All i want to know is that if there are ne ways to improve performance ie settings in the bios or control panel to make a difference?
