acpi is causing me much stress

this is what i keep getting on start up, it causes my system to hang, especially when i am playing mohaa. my system says that there are no irq conflicts, but i am sure it has something to do with the fact that acpi, modem, sound card and video card all share irq 5.

any ideas please?

You don't mention which version of Windows you are running. To remove ACPI in Windows9x/ME go to the registry and delete the ENUM key in HKLM. If you were to look in Device Manager you would see no devices. Go to Control Panel-Add New Hardware. Choose a device manually. When asked what type of device choose "System Device". Under standard device types select "Plug & Play BIOS(Fail-Safe)". Ultimately this will redetect all devices and assign them IRQs without ACPI interference. VGA cards will usually go to IRQ11. The simplest way to remove ACPI in Windows XP is to re-install it. Upon setup when it says "Press F6 if you require 3rd party RAID drivers", press the F5 key repeatedly. It will ask what type of installation you require
-ACPI system
-Dual CPU system etc...etc..

Choose "Standard PC". Windows will then use IRQ steering via the MS Spec table instead of ACPI.

Easier way is to go to device manager and under system devices -> pci bus-> irq steering make sure use pci steering is unchecked. Also go into bios and select ACPI aware OS to Disabled. Another possible solution is to go into pnp/pci setup and reserve irq 5 for isa/legacy. Most devices dont like irq5 and are unstable. Removing the enum key requires hardware to be redetected and you must go into safe mode when everything is finished detecting/rebooting and remove any devices that double up (remove both) eg Direct Memory Access Controller and Keyboard. then reboot. You shouldnt have to do this with first two suggestions.
