A few Windows XP problems.....

1. Is it possible to stop the auto log out process, I have searched Help and Support and the Internet to no avail. IE. When you leave the computer unattended, how do I stop it from going back to the user log in screen.

2. A nasty one: BJC4200 printer problem. When I print most times it only does half the print, then stops OR it prints some on one page, then spits it out, and prints some more on another page, then spits it out etc OR prints scrabbled code.....

I have the latest drivers for XP, hell I have even tried the OLDER drivers I have, but it still stuffs up. I tried installing an extra com port in case the motherboard is playing up, but no luck there either, I can't get a thing to print.

Last of all, the printer is fine as I took it to a mates place who also has an XP machine, and it printed 100% fine.

Ok, any help would be much appreicated.

Thanks.

Try turning off "Prompt for Password" on the Advanced tab of the XP Power section. This is the only auto-logout that is default in XP, there shouldn't be anything making it logout after you leave the computer for a while.

I can't help with the printer though, I have a Canon S400 and it works fine.
Have you tried changing the LPT settings in the bios? I think most printers want ECP or EPP printer port enabled.

COM Port or USb Printer? Is it a comport printer, may a interrupt probem? You have any messages in you hardware section in XP?

It uses the Printer port, no USB compatibility due to its age. Its always worked well before under 98, even through my scanner (which has a pass through pararrel port) and even the scanner doesn't work neither, it says "port is in use".

There seems to be no interrupt problem visible in the device manager.

Thanks again.

Have you tried another cable?? Nearly always the cause.

Is your scanner a plustek with I/O Address jumpers. Comes with a seperate ISA controller card?

Try the driver as generic text or IBM proprinter II. If still garbage then cable at fault.
