yeah....but the performance of SATA isnt´t much bigger than our P-HD´s for Desktop/Gamer PC´s.
At this time it´s only good, that SATA got that small Cables.
U will maybe feel a difference if u´ve got a server and using the RAPTOR HD with 10000Rpm´s.

Reason...The normal HD have a Datatroughput of ca.33MB..the SATA are not something other than our P-HD with a Serial transference wich is "translated" before it come to the Mobo.I mean the only thing what´s Serial is the Transference between HD and Mobo.

It´ll become faster, if the S-HD´s would be connected directly into the North/Southbridge.

So let´s wait for SATA II/III because

theoretical Performance:

SATA 1.0
1,5Gb/s 150MB/s 2001

SATA II
Vaihe1 150MB/s + 2003

SATA II
Vaihe2 3Gb/s 300MB/s 2004

SATA III
6Gb/s 600MB/s 2007?

so....allright? *smile*

... since I own SATA drives now ...
1. when you have 2 fast drives like the 10k should be 1 cable isn't enough anymore .... my HDDs get 56MB/s this one should get a bit more
2. the size of the cable is just awesome
3. SATA support hot plug and play which is awesome, too
so if you upgrade HDDs make sure you get SATA since the price is the same

and btw when connecting 3 or more devices to one controller the datarate will drop due PCI limit

oh and I forgot since you connect any SATA device to only one cable there is no more master / slave no more incompatibilities and such things it just works great

yes....everything right, but if ur going to performance u may not have the mega boost, if u switch to SATA.
but u have the comfort that Mertsch wrote.
