XP SP-1 and 60Hz Gaming

Well, Microsoft seems to have went half-ass on us again. It was previously stated/reported that XP SP-1 was going to fix the 60Hz gaming issue and, I for one, was looking forward to no longer having to use refresh fix programs. I recently downloaded the 1106 final release SP-1 and Mircosoft has..

(contd.)..indeed fixed the 60Hz gaming issue, FOR DIRECT X GAMES ONLY. All DIRECT X games will, in fact, apply the current desktop refresh rate to all resolutions for Direct X games. If the game uses OPEN GL (i.e. Medal Of Honor), you will still be stuck at the usual 60Hz unless you use a refresh rate fix like NVRT. Once again, Microsoft does not listen to what their customer want.

Actually MS have been trying to mess with / kill off OpenGL every since they released DirectX, it wouldn't suprise me if this is just another way of messing with the more open standard in an attempt to force thier own alternative.

But MS's alternative stinks! :(
OpenGL is by far more better performance wise and is much easier to program for. Even John Carmack refuses to code a game in DirectX

"Even" or should that be "Only"? The vast majority of games are DirectX. Let's not forget, either, that the big chipset people (nVidia and ATI) work closely on that very API...

I agree it should be fixed tho... :)

I've pretty much assumed from the beginning that MS was not going to fix the 'bug'. I kind of figured this when there was no official mention of it on their hotfix sites anywhere. Yet another rumour killed off.....maybe, just maybe people would do research on their own to figure out the truth for once.

Personally i feel that if you continue to use M$ products you are going to have to deal and live with this.

Ahh come on, think about it A. Direct3D is significantly more widely used in Games. B. Direct3D is Microsoft's API, not OpenGL. While it would have been nice of them to do something to apply the same with OpenGL it's not really their problem. Besides, how many OpenGL games don't allow you to adjust the refresh rate - All quake engine games now do (r_displayRefresh "x")
