Microsoft will launch external HD-DVD drives for its Xbox 360 at a retail price of US$200 by Christmas of this year, and Taiwanese games developers and gaming services providers indicated this this is a smart marketing strategy as compared with Sony's adoption of built-in BD drives for its PlayStation 3 (PS3).

Time will tell, but ppl don't like to buy expensive addons. Tthe option so it's cheaper is the appeal, but if ppl like the blu-ray idea already in the PS3 it's gonna take off and say bye bye to HD. |

If blue-ray dont take off, then Sony is basicly toast. Big gamble it turned out to be. Microsoft also took a change by not adapting to the HD market, but now it looks like it was a very intelligent move to wait and use HD-DVD as an add on. I hope Blue-Ray tanks. |

You mean people don't like to buy expensive GAMING add-ons. If the drive is $200 (or less) AND if HD-DVD wins the battle against Blu-Ray, $200 isn't that much when you look at the big picture. Stand-alone HD-DVD players are ~$500+ but if you buy either of the 360 bundles ($300 or $400), you are basically getting a HD-DVD player for ~$500-600+. But not only will it be able to play movies, it will also be able to play the latest 360 games, XBLA games, sync to your home network, sync with MCE Extender, etc. But if Blu-Ray wins, then you won't feel bad b/c you weren't forced to buy a HD-DVD drive. |
