X Codec Pack tries to be a small but useful codec pack. Only the essentials codecs (for viewing movies - not compressing).

The problem with this pack and most of the others is that you're still missing the Real and Quicktime alternatives. It seems the people that do the K-Lite and Mega packs own those two, so you'll always need them...or you can get bogged down by DL'ing the real things from Apple and Real. The best solution is the Mega Codec Pack and only install the essentials (for me that's just decoding), or get ffdshow and the 2 alternatives. |
