Woman sues Microsoft over Vista marketing

Posted by: [NT] on: 04/05/2007 01:10 PM [ Print | 41 comment(s) ] · 4775 views

Microsoft has been sued on grounds of deceptive marketing practices with its "Windows Vista Capable" campaign, according to a report by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The plaintiff, a certain Dianne L. Kelley, alleges that a large number of computers sold last year with a "Windows Vista Capable" sticker are only able to run Windows Vista Home Basic, which lacks many of the "signature" Vista features. TechReport has more.

This is just sad. How the heck do you mix up "Vista Capable" with "Vista Premium Ready", everyone should know by now that Premium = Aero Glas....

well, im glad i haqvent got vista yet. Its not even finished yet. I think billy g deserves everything he gets. I dont know the difference between the versions and have heard nothing but bad news about its support especially for games and vertical sync. I aint touching it till hes finished it.

well, who cares, all that matters is that it doesnt work! thats why im sticking with xp. None of the versions have descent game support. Microsoft are a massive company, this sort of shoddy workmanship is a disgrace. Its a piece of shit.

yes, except your logic is flawed.

95/98 still ran on DOS and couldn't support/do shit so undoubtedly more resources are going to be consumed on a real OS. BUT, hardly anything has changed (especially with windows) except for hardware now being exponentially faster. Take a look at Linux. It can be full featured, but still run extremely fast and only marginally slower (not 200% like vista) on the same hardware as a lot older versions. Using M$ as the only test source is fallacy. All they did for XP and vista was pile on more shit (look it up if you don't believe me). We got win2000 from NT (no big deal there, they made NT more stable, I can actually use win2k and not want to kill ppl), then XP was just rehash of win2000 with more shit you don't need with lazy/shitty programming. Vista really added the BS to the same 'ol XP (which is 2000, which is NT, which some code was from 95/98, etc, do see what I'm getting at?). Do you see why each one runs slower than the previous? It's not b/c it's a law of physics or some shit, but b/c M$ flat out sucks dick and refuses to make an OS void of their old shitty code. Less is more, get over it. ***** bloatware.

i agree, that instead of improving the code and making it more efficient, it seems you need more and more resources to cope with this new system. If anything you should need less. It is bloatwarena don top of that there are silly flaws like the vertical sync thing, that really pisses me off. On vista i cant even play ut2k4, and none of my other games run properly on it. I know people who bought it and went back to xp just so they could play games. When you consider how long it has taken and the power of ms its unforgiveable. Lazy coding and support. Of course xp had problems at the start but never as bad as this. I dont get why its such a problem, for me there are no excuses. And i repeat, louder this time, its a peice of over prices badly written toilet paper.

some of it is due to nvidia, but I really think they're having a very difficult time developing descent drivers since M$ changed the driver model so severely (basically fucked it up, but you already know that :P)

3.1 95, 98, 2000 and XP didnt have DRM though and thats the biggest Vista killer.

MS should get their noses out of DRM it has nothing to do with them.

Listen to this BS!

I installed a couple updates a few days ago and I needed to restart, so I did. BIG MISTAKE!
Vista just continuously rebooted after configuring updates and sometimes would bluesreen. It's impossible to fix if you don't have a restore point before the update, so the installation is hosed. You can't go into safe-mode and there is no repair.
I bet businesses are going to be thrilled if this starts happening to them.

oh, forgot to say that's the last straw. Vista was atrocious enough as it was w/o shit like that. At least I can go into safe-mode on XP. Bye bye, shitsa!

P.S. The only reason I started using that POS was b/c I needed to know how gay it is for being a PC/network technician, and now I know haha

Far as I've seen elsewhere the Vertical Sync "problem" is "by design" & relies on games to set the preferred mode.

I have never run into this DRM scare on Vista so far, not that I am defending it, but DRM hasn't prevented me from doing anything yet in Vista.

Thats prolly because ITS TRUE!
Every single Windows has been more and more resource hogging. For example put your ear on an idle Win98 machnines HD and then do the same with a Windows XP machines HD. You will quickly notice the HUGE difference.

Because that's how XP was designed. You'd best search up on it though. I'm just going by what has been said elsewhere. I may be wrong. Could just be lousy drivers too.

You seem to be working on the assumption that if it worked one way in the past it should never, ever, ever, be changed in the future.

Strange woman. Some people sue over the strangest things.

To those that are having trouble with games, it is an nVidia problem. ATI cards that are Vista Premium certified work great.

Plus, most games let you turn Vsync on or off in the software. Using an LCD monitor is the way to go, it seems.

Why is she strange? Shes right MS should clearly advertise on the box exactly what features are available for each version.
