New compression algorithms, as well as support for new file formats, make it a much well-rounded package, and its largely unchanged interface means it remains the most user-friendly compression tool available. The photo management tools are reasonable, making it a from camera to grandma photo solution, but the image compression tools are nonsensical - attempting to compress already compressed images (JPEGs) yields no benefits. Another disappointment is that there is no shareware option - all you get for free is a 45-day trial. But compared to the likes of StuffIt Deluxe 12.0 and WinRAR, you get more for your money. Having said that, for many users most of WinZip 12.0's features will be surplus to requirements. |
