InterVideo must have the luck of the gods on their sides!!! Because their programmers are just useless. But ther marketing team are amazing!!! The orginal "platinum" version of WinDVD, shipped with many bugs. Infact, one of the biggest bugs is a bug that stops the program from saving it's settings after you change DVD's or shut the player down. This bug has been present in ALL InterVideo DVD software for over 1 YEAR now!!! To be fair to them, about 50% of the bugs have been fixed with this release, BUT... The SRS "feature" does not work, and it does not save its settings. The colour adjusters do not save, and reset after each new DVD is played. Infact, most settings that are not in the main "setup" panel, are completely reset, sometimes randomly, at the restart of the player, or the insertion of a new DVD. The Audio volume levels are too low, but there is an adjustment to it, hidden away in the speaker settings, in the so called "audio booster pack", but you guessed it, the settings change to completly random setting after putting a new DVD in, or shutting down the player, and restarting. Another bug, is that the software stutters both audio and video, at the begining of each chapter of the DVD, which is very annoying. And is one of the "new" bugs that ship with version 5! I would have to give InterVideo the prize for the most lazyest team of programmers ever. Infact, their is absolutley NOTHING new about WinDVD 5, the ONLY difference, is the seperation of audio pannels, which for somehow, have been turned in to yet another way for InterVideo to make money! Oh, and the other difference, is a couple more "video filters", 99% of which, are totally useless, unless you enjoy watching a film in negative colour!!! And lets not forget the fact that it has a "new" skin! You could import it into previous versions of WinDVD!!! And gain yourself 50% of the "improvements" Steer clear of this $99 waste of money! |

ha, don't get us started. i'm scandalized by software that you pay $100 for (what were we thinkin!) that has a pretty interface and get this - asks you pay $50 more with the new version with "new features" that comes out a few months later. for what? i'll tell you what: hyperbole - and families wasting their discretionary income on the wit and averice of bold and greasy ad men. we deserve more than our own narcissism and good grasp of the obvious |

The orginal "platinum" version of WinDVD, do you mean WinDVD 4.5? There were some bugs at the beginning, but many of them were solved almost imediately in the following days and within 2 to 3 weeks. For the final version(s) of WinDVD4.5 are very good indeed. They even have hyper-threading support. It is unfortunate that they have to re-position their product lines in reponse to the coming PowerDVD 5. Anywa, back to WinDVD 5 Platinum, there are a few program inteface bugs, yes. And, I am sure they will release another build version soon. I personally have not experienced the bugs/problems you mentioned. However, I must agree with your view on the separation of audio panels. This move is clearly to match the PowerDVD package ... but still, it sucks. Okay, the price ... nobody would pay $99 unless you miss all those promotions and rebate coupons. There is a $20 rebate coupon for first-time purchaser; rebate coupon for upgrades; rebate coupon for switching to WinDVD (you have some other DVD program already installed on your computer, and it doesn't matter which one) Once it detects the presence of another DVD program, you are eligible for the rebate. I think I must have missed some other promotions ... but hey, why don't you go there and see for yourself. |

Hi Juomaru, I'm able to confirm the presence of these bugs in both my laptop, and my home desktop. I have also found the same bugs in a friends PC as well. I agree with you about 4.5, the final build of that was fantastic. But what I have found very strange, is that 5.0 has the same bugs that 4.5 had in the beginning! I find that VERY odd. But after all, they ARE the same software! |
