Windows XP SP2 Build 2179

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 08/05/2004 10:38 PM [ Print | 7 comment(s) ] · 4279 views

Windows XP SP2 2179 has been just released and we've snagged ourselves a nice link. Download at your own risk if you are interested in beta testing.

Please Note: The is not the Final build of SP2 and as such should be consider a beta build!

Windows XP SP2 Build 2179 Download- Scroll to the bottom of the page.

JC88 noticed: I've Just Installed XP SP2 Build 2179, and to my suprise my Non-640 PID Serial Number, that previously did NOT work in Build 2162, worked during the install of this Build.. So I Thought, ok... it could just be because people may get stuck during the middle of setup if they have not got a valid key, and so Microsoft allowed these illegal keys during setup... But to My suprise, once getting into Windows XP, Windows Update now works with the invalid PID!!! (Didn't Before).. Have Microsoft Decided to allow illegal Keys at the last minute???? Is this what is causing the SP2 Delay???

Digg it! Del.icio.us Technorati Furl Google Bookmarks

Can you say "pointless?"
2180 (final) is finished and due to hit the web in the next 3-4 days.
Even if you have an illegitimate key, why not just change it rather than be concerned about which SP's will let you keep it? It's not like there aren't work-arounds anyway.
Unless you feel like having to download and re-install another build in a week, why bother?
I like the new features too, but waiting 3 days isn't going to hurt anyone :)

I agree Domingo. Sure there must be some peeps who are hurting though. It will be downloaded and installed straight away. Like you say, why bother?

Just curious, will it install over the public RC2, or will that have to be uninstalled first?

I installed the first RC and the 2nd one and I had to uninstall the 1st one before installing the 2nd one. No worries though, as it'll retain all of your settings for the firewall/pop-up/wireless network/etc.

I found the normall uninstall in the control panel applet did nothing, so be sure to use the uninstall program that be default is located in your Windows directory and looks something like "$Service Pack Uninstall$

I have to say I love the pop-up blocker built into IE and actually think it's better than any 3rd party ones I've seen. It occasionally has issues with downloads (it treats them as HTML pages swamped with ASCII characters) but it's great 95% of the time.

I'm looking forward to the final...but again, it's pointless to grab the last beta release when the final is finished and only a day away. Even those waiting on a slipstream so they can format can stay cool for 3 days :)

Did it ever occur to people to actually BUY the software? Or do you people simply not understand the concept of paying for software?

LOL...I bought mine a few years ago when I built my last PC, but it is pretty wacky how many people are still using that corporate ISO from the summer of 2001 :)
I'm all about 'try before you buy' with an OS but it HAS been a while since XP's been out.

On a side note: looks like 2180 has leaked as the RTM. I'd still wait for MS's website to update, but if anyone it impatient or waiting on a format...g'head to iexbeta's forum.

As far as my OS or any other major software, I always buy it.
