Flexbeta.net is the first on the scene with an official download link to Windows Media Player 10 Technical preview. "Windows Media Player 10 is being refined to provide a great experience for discovering, playing, and taking your digital media anywhere. We are still in the early stages, but this technical beta lays the groundwork for the great end-to-end digital media experience coming with the final release for Windows XP."

* Up to 200% faster
* Slimmer and more customable interface
* Requeres less memory

Three features it wont have.

Well, it works as well as previous v9, finally has some cool features that have always been missing since v7 (can now toggle time remaining, etc. at bottom of full mode). But, it is missing some v9 things, such as Info View seems broken (no album info, etc.); radio tuner is now only accessible through the Guide page; probably some others stuff haven't noticed yet. The Library enhancements are sure cool though.

True :)

I can understand where MS is coming from (battling competitors for the 'default app' option) and even though it is likely becoming more bloated, I remember 6-7 years ago when you needed 100 3rd party applications to open almost anything. I appreciate a little bit of bloat as long as it's optional and doesn't automatically make itself your default program for everything under the sun.

I still like using WMP for movies and Winamp for audio personally. As long as they allow you to customize what the default progs are during install, I'm happy.

For a small program that'll do anything you want, tough to beat Media Player Classic, though.

You can add support for Ogg Vorbis. FLAC, ... to the list of features still not supported. I guess I'll just continue using foobar2000 and ZoomPlayer.

I hope they offer a way to disable the Napster/CinemaNow.com part of the interface

I use WinAMP for everything, including movies. its a one-app installation, and supports everything with a great interface, and thats all I need. :)
