I guess if you are a complete Noob at setting up your vid card then this might be for you.

Personally I prefer ATI TrayTools.

This is going to be a part of Cat. 4.9 drivers so eventually you will have it on your system. ;]

According to everything I've read it's going to remain optional and they plan to keep the drivers-only package available.

I think it's a great idea to have it though. When I have a friend that's new to PC gaming it's a LOT eaiser to have them use this than to hope they don't break everything in the ATI control panel. I'm sure eventually (once Longhorn rolls around) they'll likely just replace the control panel applet with this...which is just a graphically pleasing version of the same thing.

Same here. I tried it out for a little while but it's way too bloated and way too slow. They should have just went with ATI Tray Tools or Radlinker. Those are simple, efficient, fast, *small* and work great.

Anyway, hopefully they'll take a look at those utilities and maybe provide something a little more streamlined and fast for the next version of it.

I am so glad that this takes 100 megs of RAM to run. I am *NOT* kidding. You first run the system tray icon... 75 megs. Actually bring up the control panel... 100+ megs. AWEXOME!!!!!! ATI RULZ~!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL

They obviously graduated with a CS degree from Brown University.

Don't you guys read anything? You can still use the "old" Control Panel. They're not replacing that.

We realize this but that's not the point.

you'll go back to nvidia over optional software?
seems a bit rash if you ask me.

yup 2x CLI.EXE = 10mb when the panel is running
and about 20mb for the 30 preview.
not as bad as you'd have it seem, as several windows services use more memory.

Exactly! Why ***** about something nobody's making you get? If you don't want it - don't download it! For someone who's new to PC gaming this is a great idea.

If you're going to supposedly 'switch to Nvidia' over this...you likely were before you saw this and are just looking some reason to justify it. Nvidias new cards kick ass, and so do ATI's. Whatever.

So what is the point? If you don't want to use this then you don't have to use it. The regular control panel is still there. It's not like they're updating the old control panel any more & you MUST install the new Control Center from now on. Arguing over ATi forcing you to install this & .Net from now on is asinine. They're doing no such thing & it ought to benefit newbies who will now get to see what changing certain options actually does.
