Symantec Fixes Product Activation Bug

Symantec fixed a bug late Monday in the product activation feature it debuted this fall in its latest line of security products, including Norton AntiVirus 2004.
The bug, which affects all English-language Symantec products tagged with the '2004' label sold at retail, forced some users to re-enter the activation code each time the computer was restarted. Product activation is an anti-piracy feature that essentially ties an application to a specific PC, and is used by other vendors as well as Symantec, most noticeably Microsoft.
Previously, Symantec officials had admitted that its product activation presented problems for some users, but it posted a fix on its Web site.

Good, good.... It's always nice to see product activation doing its job by causing problems for legitimate customers who paid their hard earned money for software. I have a copy of xp pro that I paid $150 for over a year ago that I wont use because I am so sick of the activation garbage of having to call microsoft every second or third time I change hardware. Thank god for the so-called "corp" editions... |
