Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove a multitude of adware files and modules from your computer. Spybot also can clean program and Web-usage tracks from your system, which is especially useful if you share your computer with other users. Modules chosen for removal can be sent directly to the included file shredder, ensuring complete elimination from your system. For advanced users, it allows you to fix registry inconsistencies related to adware and to malicious program installations. The handy online-update feature ensures that Spybot always has the most current and complete listings of adware, dialers, and other uninvited system residents.
Version 1.3 adds enhanced immunization features, an improved interface, and integration of BrowserManager for spyware detection, plus the new Hosts File feature and bug fixes.

It is the final release, we were contacted and given it along with download.com. It probably should still be an RC release because theres some issues with TeaTimer and some cookies, when told to allow, will not allow and block loading of the website. Warp2search will find this out if they run anything from a doubleclick server. Anyhow, it is an official release and if you were running RC releases, you can safely grab it. |

Hate to sound like this but I am fairly certain that the S&D at the above-listed source isn't a good idea to install. I downloaded it and uninstalled v1.2 and installed v1.3. It had an odd loading scheme and nothing appeared different about the "newer" version. It then got hung up and gave an odd error warning. I closed it only to discover fresh spanking-new spyware programs running rampant on my system. WhenUSearch, ClockSync, DyFuCa, and WebRebate and somesuch crap! Joy! So I uninstalled 1.3 completely and went back to 1.2 which couldn't detect most of this junk. Finally had to install AdAware after manually hunting most of this junk down and deleting it manually. So IMHO, this is some sort of phony version of 1.2 that has been trojaned with some kind of spyware installer at the beginning. BE WARY! |

the 1.2 version also blocks this site, just hit refresh a few times after "No' for blocking when the prompt appears. 1.3 scans faster but differently than before, I actually like it better because there are now over 16,022 things it looks for and it found a few things that 1.2 and AdAware didn't. I think it need a little work and tweaking but it's a winner if the minor bugs get fixed... |
