SoundBlaster X-Fi Crackling and Popping Update from Creative

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 08/11/2006 04:15 PM [ Print | 4 comment(s) ] · 5351 views

A new update from Creative on the crackling and popping issues some people are experiencing with their SoundBlaster X-Fi cards. According to Creative the sound glitches only arise on nForce 4 motherboards and only nVidia is able to fix them.

A full technical description is detailed below, but in brief, the PCI bus data requests are not being serviced leading to "gaps" in the audio, resulting in sudden dropouts to no audio and back again which gives rise to what is perceived as crackling.

Yeah right only nforce4 then how they are going to explain crackling on intel x955 chipset (happened to me with my old pc). There is rising a helluva shit storm when this spreads. And ofcourse typical creative the vault is other problem not in change creatives own. Hope there is decent soundcard makers that blows this piece of shit company out of business!!!!

The X-Fi is fantastic and like the massive majority of owners I have zero problems. Sounds better than any other card I have ever used.

Creative does have driver problems in their history but this crap about the X-Fi is blown out of proportion.

I call shenanigans.. I have a DFI NF4 that had an XFI no-heatsink extrememusic version in it and it worked perfectly under old bios and all the drivers old and new. Then it got upgraded to a newer heatsinked XFI Fatality and all of a sudden there is chirping here and there in the sound and nonstop looping of sounds during BF2 after about 20min. Same PCI slot same drivers, even tried updating bios to the newest one that is only 3 months old. I have another newer heatsinked XFI Platinum in my own personal DFI NF4 eXpert and it works perfectly. So this leads me to believe there is a problem with the onboard X-RAM since that is the only difference between all the systems. Unless you count the stupid LED on the Fatal1ty...
