Sony PSP UMD format cracked; game ISOs appear

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 05/05/2005 02:21 PM [ Print | 6 comment(s) ] · 1388 views

Another step forward in the race to crack open the PSP: ps2nfo.com user Paradox worked out how to get a dump from a UMD disc, and has released the ISO files for several PSP games (Wipeout: Pure US, Ridge Racers Japanese, and Vampire Chronicles: The Chaos Tower Japanese). Also of note, UMD discs use the standard ISO9669 format, so the released ISOs can be burned to regular CDs or DVDs.

Sony's whole thing in regards to preventing PSP piracy was to keep the UMD disc standard closed off from retail, which they have done. Unless some company releases blank UMD's, your going to have to wait for an Emulator to play these roms. I'd love to give lumines a try, especially w/ a 5.1 sound system.

Eh...the PSP is a great handheld, but then again the games are still just watered down console ports. If you're going to bother to DL them, you'd need a way to play them. Unless you have some way to copy to blank UMD's or you're desperate enough for the games to emulate them...this is no big deal. If you really want the PSP games and don't want to pay for them, why not just get their better, big brother PS2 or PC versions?

But you can't currently play the copied games on the PSP...so that doesn't help. Right now you'll just have to emulate 'em. If you're gonna do that...might as well get the 'real' version of the game.

ps2 or xbox surely doesnt fit into your pocket but you are forced to play on psp in home anyway because it is terrible battery sucker so imo with games being ports from "bigger" brothers this console as it is now is pure shit and waste of money
