I'm confused here, but why would anyone want to downgrade their PSP?

Because the newest version of the firmware has additional copy protection, which of course stops you from copying games, but also from running homebrew software.

So if you downgrade your PSP, you can play emulators such as NES games and SNES.

Ok, besides copy protection, what are there features differences between the 2 versions?

And some homebrew apps for running some PSP game iso files on your memory stick (legal backup copies, of course).
