Socket 939, 940 Opteron Phase-Out Plan Revealed

China's HKEPC has the scoop on AMD's end of life timetable for Socket 940 and 939 Opterons. The chips will be progressively terminated after the introduction of the new 1,207-pin Socket F, which will be land grid array-based and enable support for DDR2 RAM. On the Socket 940 front, the Opteron 244 and 844 will be the first to go, with last orders taking place in the first quarter of this year.
