XGR outlines the changes that will be made to Return to Castle Wolfenstein to allow it to be released in Germany. Citing "my source over in Germany," they report, the German version of the game will have "replaced the Nazis with a cult called The Wolves" and "renamed Heinrich Himmler to Heinrich Höller."
A post on Shacknews also quotes CEO Todd Hollenshead who basically confirms the story, going on to explain the fairly obvious reasons behind the move.

Seems like the German government wants to pretend that the whole Nazi thing never happened. That would be like the US trying to pretend that slavery never happened and banning Civil War history books. I mean it's terrible that those things happened but they did; the people responsible are long gone though. How does that go, those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it? |

Yeah, that's exactly my point. They are forbidden because they want to deny that any of that ever happened. We have bad stuff happen here too, but we don't try to cover it up and pretend everything is just peachy. |

Once again, if you lived in Germany, or read up on German society/politics a bit more, you'd understand. After WWII, a new German government was established by the Allies. Because the country was still split up in regard to their nationalism, the government decided to extinguish the fires before another Hitler could come along. The long term effect has been rather good. They, by no means, deny that the Holocaust ever occurred, but, instead, ban the Nazi symbols just so people don't have a constant reminder of what happened. In America, would you have any problems with KKK Symbols being banned? Or signs of any racist movement banned? This has helped Germany a great deal. It makes no difference of whether the game says "Nazis" or "Wolves", anyone who plays it knows that their out to kill some Egomaniacal, mass-murdering fu**ers. falter |

Geez, what kind of WWII game would it be if we were not to fight Nazi's? And, how could it be "RETURN" to Castle Wolfenstein if it did not go back to the same that was the original Castle Wolfenstein???? |
