Report Of NSA Backdoor In Every Microsoft Operating System

"A careless mistake by Microsoft programmers has revealed that special access codes prepared by the US National Security Agency have been secretly built into Windows. The NSA access system is built into every version of the Windows operating system now in use, except early releases of Windows 95 (and its predecessors). The discovery comes close on the heels of the revelations earlier this year that another US software giant, Lotus, had built an NSA "help information"
trapdoor into its Notes system, and that security functions on other software systems had been deliberately crippled. For full reading warp 2 ... www.voxnyc.com.

The first discovery of the new NSA access system was made two years ago by British researcher Dr Nicko van Someren. But it was only a few weeks ago when a second researcher rediscovered the access system. With it, he found the evidence linking it to NSA. Computer security specialists have been aware for two years that unusual features are contained inside a standard Windows software "driver" used for security and encryption functions. The driver, called ADVAPI.DLL, enables and controls a range of security functions. If you use Windows, you will find it in the C:Windowssystem directory of your computer. ADVAPI.DLL works closely with Microsoft Internet Explorer, but will only run crypographic functions that the US governments allows Microsoft to export. That information is bad enough news, from a European point of view. Now, it turns out that ADVAPI will run special programmes inserted and controlled by NSA. As yet, no-one knows what these programmes are, or what they do. Dr Nicko van Someren reported at last year's Crypto 98 conference that he had disassembled the ADVADPI driver. He found it contained two different keys. One was used by Microsoft to control the cryptographic functions enabled in Windows, in compliance with US export regulations. But the reason for building in a second key, or who owned it, remained a mystery.

Thanks beast2. I was afraid that I was the only one to recall this scare-mongering article from a few years ago. Without delving into the M$/Open Source argument, I would like to disway the advocates from using this article as evidence or testament to any premise they hold. There is insufficient evidence within to either support or defile the argument. The observations of the article are factual, the implied findings are supposition.

If there isn't a back-door into MS operating systems, why was there a news story about the German government refusing to use MS sytems for that very reason? Also could it be the reason the US government only lightly slapped the hand of MS in the monopoly lawsuit?

LOL This is soo old, it dates back to before Windows 2000 yes during the NT version 3 and 4 era. Come on now are you people soo paranoid that u actually believe our own government is watching our every move each and every one of us every minute??! And they along with Microsoft AND intel's bluetooth, are secrectly downloading all your files from your PC... GET A LIFE, First off, Odd's are, u r a nobody to the government just another citizeen they are watching out over. Unless u are doing something your not susposed to, u have no reason u be paranoid. Because I'm sorry the ammount of resources and money it would take along with man power to run a super-DUPER over-operation like that to watch every US resident is just too much. Just think bout how much stuff u have on your computer. If MS or the government was to be logging and downloading your every move, file, email, games, etc etc they would run out of disks and drives to keep up with the ammount of data that is being transferred over the internet every day in just the USA alone. AND WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO WITHG THIS? Steal your PC? change your name and ruin your life? come on u watch 2 many movies.
Microsoft dont care what u got on your PC, nor does the NSA. Why? Cause something like that is bad for businuess for MS, and they are trying to make the best OS they can. bit try writing a full blown OS full working and out of beta every 2-3 years!!!
The NSA dont care cause hey they are the NSA they just come to your house kick in the door take your pc and u never see it again and u cant get it back because its now part of "National Securoty"!! They already have power but its not to watch u and u. They are working hard and doing a good job of foiling possible terrorist attacks. and blah blah I'll stop now... sigh :)
